Unaccounted cash totalling over Rs80 lakh was recovered during a drive to check flow of illegal money in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
Rs45 lakh were recovered from a jeep in Basti district, a police spokesman said.
Similarly, Rs17 lakh were recovered in Kushinagar, Rs5 lakh in Mau, Rs6 lakh in Chandauli, Rs5.4 lakh in Allahabad and Rs4.5 lakh in Sant Ravidas Nagar, he said.
The Income Tax department was looking into the matter, the spokesman said.
