A city court has pulled up the Delhi police for its “deficient” probe into the alleged use of a fake caste certificate by a constable for his recruitment and has asked the police commissioner to conduct a department probe against the erring investigators.
Metropolitan magistrate Vishal Singh ticked off the police saying it made mockery of constable’s trial. “Copy of this judgment be sent to police commissioner for conducting inquiry against the officials responsible for conducting deficient investigation of the case, which made the present trial a mockery in the name of the trial,” the court said.
The court sought departmental probe against the erring policemen, while acquitting Roop Singh, who allegedly used a forged Scheduled Tribes certificate to get job in 1989-1990.
The magistrate came down heavily on the police saying the way the investigation in the case has been carried out by the police revealed their lack of willingness to prosecute the accused, who was a “member of its own brass”.
“The manner in which the case was investigated by the police, the evidence collected by the IO during case investigation and the content of the evidence led by prosecution reveal much about willingness or the lack of the same to bring the culprit to account for his offence, especially when the culprit is a member of its own brass,” it said.
