Bunty Chor, on whom the Bollywood movie Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye was based, is back and has struck again in the national capital. The notorious thief, who gave sleepless nights to the Delhi police few years ago, struck again in south Delhi on Monday morning by stealing a car from a businessman’s house. Despite being chased by the Haryana police, the notorious thief managed to escape.
Top police sources said Devinder Singh, alias Bunty, struck at the house of a businessman in New Friends Colony area and stole his SX4 car. Before the Delhi police could arrive at the scene, Bunty had sped away and made his way to Haryana where he dropped at a jeweller’s shop in Palwal area at around 9 am to purchase some ornaments. “The jeweller, who had seen him in television reality show Big Boss, knew that police was looking for him and asked him to come back after some time. In the meantime, he made a call to the police control room and a trap was laid to catch him,” a police source said.
When Bunty arrived at the shop at around 11 pm, he found a large number of Haryana police personnel outside the shop. Sensing trouble, he jumped into the stolen SX4 vehicle and drove away fast. “A police party, which was kept on stand-by, chased him and a barricade was erected on the road taken by Bunty to catch him,” the source said.
Bunty, however, crashed his vehicle into the barricade and kept driving his SX4. “The chasing police party opened fire at the vehicle. One of the bullets hit the vehicle’s rear tyre and the car skidded off the road. Bunty jumped out of the car and disappeared,” the source said.
Known for his notorious thefts, Bunty was arrested by south Delhi police in 2007 for a spate of robberies in south Delhi. He was released later and had vowed to lead a normal life.
