Many Indians are lodged in jails abroad even after completing their punishment terms, said Union overseas Indian affairs minister Vayalar Ravi.
The minister, who has been camping in the pink city for the three-day Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, also said that the recent DGCA warning to Air India on safety concerns would not cause any trouble for Indians travelling abroad.
Mr Ravi is all set to go for a personal campaign in the Gulf countries to invite participation by the Indian workers there for the government’s new pension and insurance scheme for them.
“The Air India Express will not have to stop services due to safety concerns. The management had already taken steps to fulfil safety parameters when I was the minister of civil aviation,” Mr Ravi said.
Mr Ravi added that he had contacted DGCA chief E.K. Bharat Bhushan to discuss the matter after the aviation regulator warned Air India in this connection.
The minister said the new NRI pension and insurance scheme that got the Union Cabinet’s nod on Tuesday was meant for the unskilled and semi-skilled Indian workers particularly in the Gulf countries. The Prime Minister would announce the scheme during his inaugural speech at the tenth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on Sunday.

Watch, bones found in Bhanwari case

In a significant move, the CBI on Saturday recovered a watch and parts of a human skull suspected to be of missing nurse Bhanwari Devi from the Rajiv Gandhi canal in Jodhpur.
The recoveries were made on the disclosure of prime suspects who had disclosed during interrogation that she was strangulated while the body was later burnt before her last remains were dumped in the canal. In addition to the watch, beads of a necklace belonging to the 36-year-old woman were also recovered by the agency team.
The investigating agency is expecting to get more evidences, including her body remains, from the canal over the next few days. All the recoveries have been sent for forensic examination. On Friday, CBI team had recovered two country-made pistols and a wooden bat from the canal. The Rajasthan government has stopped water supply to the canal to enable the CBI to locate the remains of the nurse.
