Kids get a fashion week of their own

Now, kids are going to walk pretty on the ramp. After prêt, resort and Men’s Fashion Week, India is going to host its first ever India Kids Fashion Week on January 17-19, 2012 in Mumbai. Around 500 kids of age group (4-14) will be selected from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

“The child models will be selected by our team of choreographers and stylists on the basis of confidence, style and cheerful attitude on the ramp. There will be 24 shows with eight designers showcasing every day, ” said Manoj Mahla, director of IKFW.
From shoes, stylish outfits to accessories, kids are all set to scorch the ramp in outfits by designers Rocky S, Nishka Lulla, Narendra Kumar. Kidswear brands like Barbie, Little Kangaroos, Just for Kids, and Kidology with designer collections by Raghuvendra Rathore, Malini Ramani, Gauri and Nainika, Gaurav Gupta will also be the part of the show.
Manoj further adds, “The kids fashion industry is booming in India which encouraged us to conceptualise the show. The market in terms of brand and retail has gone up by 25 to 30 percent. Besides Indian brands, many international brands like Fendi, Burberry are coming up with kids collection because of the huge global demand,” he added.
And designers too are excited. Designer Nishka Lulla, who has designed a new line for kids called ‘Mela’ for the Fashion Week, says, “Today, both new-age kids and parents are turning more conscious and focused on the latest dressing style and trends when it comes to kids’ fashion. My collection means carnival, which depicts lively, vibrant and outgoing spirit of kids. It’s a formal collection done in bright and vibrant shades. ”
Siddhartha Tytler, who is a part of Kidology, says that designer kidswear market in India is small and fun and has given designers a new avenue to show their creativity. He says, “We still have a long way to go. From a fresher look to bright colours to right proportion and price point, everything has to be taken into account while designing a kids’ line in India.”
