A day ahead of the proposed meeting between Kerala and Tamil Nadu officials to resolve the Mullaperiyar dispute, Central officials formally informed both states that the meeting was cancelled after objections by the Tamil Nadu
government. The water resources ministry informed the states Thursday that the meeting would be held after the Supreme Court-appointed committee on Mullaperiyar submitted its final report.
The ministry called the meeting after PM Manmohan Singh issu-ed a special direction to it. Tamil Nadu, however, twice sent letters refusing to attend it.
