The Delhi police was seen to be lenient with Anna Hazare and his team which occupied the entire Jantar Mantar stretch on Sunday for the Gandhian’s day-long fast in a clear departure from the earlier stand.
The police had in June not permitted Team Anna to protest at Jantar Mantar following which Mr Hazare had staged a day-long fast at Raj Ghat. This time, in fact, the police made extra efforts to keep anti-Anna groups at bay, as Udit Raj-led group was not allowed to enter the area while leading a procession. Mr Raj and his followers, under the banner of All India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations, were left stranded on the Jail road from where they shouted anti-Anna slogans.
Those present at the venue to protest for other causes criticised the police for not allowing them to carry out their demonstration and giving all liberty to Team Anna.
“How can they allow Anna and his team to erect a dais in the middle of the road. Such liberty is not given to others. This is clear violation of rules,” said R.B. Kaul, working president of Vishwa Bauddha Sangha.

CBI officer faces court censure, warrant issued

A city court issued bailable warrants against a CBI officer probing a case against the alleged aides of Abdul Karim Telgi, kingpin of the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, for failing to appear before it multiple times, despite warnings.
Special CBI judge Manoj Jain issued bailable warrants of `25,000 and granted “last and final opportunity” to V.K. Shukla, the investigating officer (IO) in the case against Puran Singh, a sacked Delhi police official and three others. Shukla had failed to appear on five consecutive dates of hearing since April 13. The court said that if Shukla failed to appear before it on the next date of hearing on January 18, 2012, it would not examine prosecution evidence any further in the case.
“I am not very much satisfied with the explanation and the reason assigned particularly keeping in mind the previous absence of the witness,” the judge said.
