For Tusshar Kapoor, the success of The Dirty Picture has been twofold: First, he’s been able to establish that he’s capable of taking on versatile roles. Second, as a producer, the fact that The Dirty Picture seems to have hit a home run is a pleasant development indeed. So how does the Kapoor family intend to celebrate?
“I’ve never been very good at planning parties,” Tusshar says modestly. “My sister and my mom are the people who usually enjoy playing the perfect hostesses.” The clear division of roles is something that is carried over into their production house as well. While Ekta and Shobha Kapoor look into the creative aspect of the business, Tusshar handles the finances. “I think there was always a segregation of responsibilities,” he says.
Being Ekta Kapoor’s brother has brought with it allegations of favouritism, something that Tusshar shrugs off with an, “I’m not a permanent fixture in my home productions.” His inclusion in The Dirty Picture certainly seems to have been inspired, especially considering the uninhibited jig Tusshar’s character breaks into, after Vidya Balan’s Silk kisses him for the first time. Tusshar laughs, saying, “Yes, The Dirty Picture may have been an ensemble film, but Vidya stole the show for sure.”
Speaking of ensemble films, Tusshar has had back-to-back hits in the Golmaal films and now, The Dirty Picture. Where does he see himself in the next five years? “That’s a question that scares me…I want to be very successful. I hope my producers will now trust me with their solo projects,” Tusshar says after a pause.
Tusshar’s certainly managed to generate a lot of goodwill for himself in the industry. Does he stay away from controversies or does he simply not let the media get wind of them? Tusshar says, “I’m too secure in my orbit to pick a fight or get into a brawl with someone. I’ve always been very shy.”
