After two days of uncertainty, Gujjar leaders called off their protest march to the state capital Jaipur to press their demand for quota. The agitating Gujjar leaders said the march has been postponed after consultation with Col. K.S. Bainsla, who is under treatment at a private hospital in Jaipur. “We are calling off our
agitation as Saint Vijay Maharaj made an appeal to us,” said Gujjar leader Harprasad Tanwar.
Demanding five per cent reservation in government jobs, Gujjars have been staging a sit-in (mahapadav) for three days at Bhandarej under Dausa district.
Gujjar leader K.S. Bainsla, spearheading his community’s agitation, was admitted to a private hospital in Jaipur on Tuesday after chest pain. The doctors said he was feeling uneasy.
In the absence of Mr Bainsla, Gujjar leader Tanwar was leading the community.
According to the Gujjar leaders, Vijay Maharaj is going to organise a grand “yagna” from November 27 to December 5 in the same area.
“Our agitation may cause a problem in the yagna. Maharaj made an appeal to us in view of the religious programme, so we withdrew the present phase of agitation,” said a Gujjar leader. “I am thankful to Mr Bainsla, who accepted my appeal,” said Vijay Maharaj, who came to the site of agitation to talk with the Gujjar leaders.
Minister of state for home Virendra Beniwal had also appealed to Gujjar leaders to maintain peace and harmony. Meena leader Kirodi Lal Meena said everyone has a right to protest, but it should be peaceful. The state government had geared up to maintain the law and order situation during the agitation.
