[1]Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said some "very important" bills are to be presented in the Winter Session of Parliament and hoped that the opposition would not boycott it.
"I sincerely hope that all political parties will realise that we have some very important pieces of legislation which are going to be presented in this session and our country's sustained development and prosperity demands that many of those bills should be converted as acts of Parliament," Singh told reporters here before the beginning of the session on Tuesday. His comments came amid reports that the opposition National Democratic Alliance would boycott home minister P. Chidambaram.
"As far as the boycott is concerned, I sincerely hope that the political parties will resist any such temptation. There is virtually no case for a boycott of the type that has been talked about in the newspapers," he added. Legislations like the Lokpal Bill are to be discussed in the session that ends December 21. Citing a troubled global economy, Singh warned that a mismanagement of affairs would spell trouble for the country.
"As you all know that the global economy is facing serious difficulties and if we don't manage our affairs well, we can also go down," the Prime Minister said. "And I sincerely hope that at a time when the country is poised for sustained equitable economic growth, all political parties will make their effective contribution to making that happen," he added.
