Session on from today, Opp. plans cut motions

New Delhi, April 14: The second phase of the Budget Session of Parliament, which begins Thursday, promises to be stormy with the Opposition determined to put the government on the mat on a series of issues, including the recent horrific massacre of CRPF jawans by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewa-da region and the latest controversy surrounding Union minister Shashi Tharoor.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance said on Wednesday that it would join hands with several other Opposition parties and groups to bring forward “cut” motions over rising prices and other key issues.
The NDA has demaned suspension of Question Hour in both Houses and a debate on the Dantewada attack, failing which it might disrupt proceedings. “The NDA will issue three-line whips to its MPs to get the cut motions passed in the Lok Sabha. All the cut motions will be related to the price rise, which affects common people and the national interest,” BJP Rajya Sabha deputy leader S.S. Ahluwalia told reporters.
Top Congress leaders met at party president Sonia Gandhi’s 10 Janpath residence on Wednesday and reviewed the situation in the wake of recent developments. Parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told reporters the meeting was a routine one and that “there will be no problem for the government”.
