There is good news for those who inspite of living in the city for years have always wanted to know it better. Now, the Phase III of Delhi Metro aims to bring places of historical importance and heritage sites closer to them.
While the new line is expected to boost tourism in and around the city, Delhiites are all geared up for visits to these destinations. “I have lived in the city all my life, but I am embarrassed to reveal that there are many important places here which I have never visited. While Metro has already made our lives so easy, this move is again going to be a great service to the city,” says Saika Sen, 21, a student.
Saika’s glad that her mundane weekly visits to the nearby mall will be over now, and she should be able to visit the real Delhi she has only read about.
The best part about this initiative that aims to put tourism on track will be special smart cards and other interesting tourist packages. “I would often back off only at the planning stage of a travel to the city, because the transport system is poor. Travel by bus is cumbersome, and taxi burns a hole in your pocket. Metro, I’m sure, is going to work wonders even here and the journey is going to be inexpensive,” says Neeti Prasad, 26, a Delhi-based teacher.
Freelance photographer Noel Nealson, who has been photographing Delhi for the past few years, is already much impressed by the functioning of Delhi Metro. He says, “The best thing about this move would be that it will keep touts at bay and foreign tourists won’t be taken for a ride.”
