Meanwhile, the RJD MPs who were expected to meet President Pratibha Patil on Wednesday to submit a letter withdrawing support to the government will now do the same along with the SP on Thursday as they have together sought time from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Interestingly, however, giving the matter a new twist by fishing in troubled waters, the main Opposition BJP has asked Mr Lalu Yadav and Mr Mulayam Singh to formally withdraw support to the government by writing to the President.
Denying that his party is planning to bring a no-confidence motion, the Samajwadi Party chief said, “Nothing as of now, we need to decide it among ourselves first, and then only can we bring it (a no-confidence motion). We don’t have enough MPs of our own.”
Echoing this sentiment, the RJD chief, too, said, “There is no such decision. It is wrong information. We have only four MPs and, therefore, where is the question of a no-confidence motion.” Mr Prasad, however, said, his party has sought a meeting with the President but has not been allotted a time as yet. Meanwhile, provoking Mr Lalu Yadav and Mr Mulayam Singh, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said, “They should now go to the President to withdraw support. We are with them.”
