After spending barely seven to eight hours at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, where he was sent on Saturday evening after his bail plea was rejected, former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa was admitted to the intensive care unit of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology in the early hours Sunday following complaints of chest pain, back ache and vomiting.
Dr C.N. Manjunath, the institute’s director who is heading a five-member team attending on Mr Yeddyurappa, said he was admitted at 1.40 am Sunday.
He also has high blood pressure and urinary problems, Dr Manjunath said, adding that ECG and blood tests have already been conducted on the former chief minister.
“We will also be conducting an angiogram on Monday or a day after, and only after that will we know the exact problem,” he said.
The doctor said Mr Yeddyurappa had undergone a “stress nuclear scan” a month and a half ago, which showed certain “perfusion defects”. Dr Manjunath said the BJP leader will be kept under observation for 48 hours.
Mr Yeddyurappa soon had a bevy of visitors flooding the hospital to see him, including chief minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and several ministers.
The chief minister said: “He looks very exhausted and was not able to speak. We were advised by doctors not to tire him by engaging in a conversation.”
