A city court on Thursday sent Jammu and Kashmir native Aamir Abbas Dev, an accused in the Delhi high court blast case, to 11 days of judicial custody after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said it did not want his custody any more.
Special NIA judge H.S. Sharma remanded Dev to jail till October 24 after he was produced following his interrogation in NIA’s custody for 20 days.
Dev is accused of sending terror emails to media groups after the blast at the high court gate on September 7. Fifteen persons died and 70 others were injured in the blast.
The outcome of Dev’s custodial interrogation was not known as the proceedings were conducted in-camera.
Meanwhile, NIA, which produced Dev a day before the expiry of his police custody, took him before additional chief metropolitan magistrate (ACMM) Amit Bansal to get his statement recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC. The ACMM, however, sent Dev to the court of another magistrate for recording the statement. But as he was on leave, now it would be recorded on Friday.
The statements recorded by a magistrate under the CrPC bind the accused and any U-turn during trial would make him liable for prosecution for the offence of perjury.

Powercuts to be over, NTPC plants start

Delhi power minister Haroon Yusuf on Thursday came with some relief for Delhiiites reeling under severe powercuts. Mr Yusuf held a power review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat and said that the power availability has improved.
“The power situation is much better now as some NTPC plants have started functioning and the frequency of Northern Grid is normal now. Delhi is drawing more than 2,000 MW from the Central pool as against the 2,317MW capacity allocated to it,” he said.
But long powercuts continued in the city as load shedding continued in many residential areas.
The minister said that the Dadri, Singrauli, and Rihand power plants of NTPC have already started functioning properly. However, the Badarpur plant in Delhi would be functional properly within a week.
“The government has taken steps to improve power availability in city. Instructions have been issued to discoms to avoid load shedding. Discoms should made alternative arrangement to fulfil the demand of power in Delhi,” he said.
