YMCA triumphant
It was a power-packed performance by YMCA Secunderabad as they registered a thumping 50-20 victory over Sharp Shooters at the Nawab Shujath Ahmed Khan memorial basketball tournament being organised by the City College Old Boys at the City College grounds in Hyderabad.
YMCA were on the money right from the beginning, and took an impressive 17-point lead over their opponents at half-time (29-12). Prithvi with 17 points and Sai (12) were the leading contributors for the winners, while Chintu (8) led the charge for the Sharp Shooters. Meanwhile, in another match, CRPF outclassed NIRD 41-29. CRPF literally sealed the contest when the scoreline read 31-10 in their favour at half-time. NIRD did try to bring parity to the proceedings in the second half, pocketing 19 points but it was too little too late.
In another match, BHEL ‘A’ scripted a one-sided 55-19 win over HAL ‘B’. BHEL started off with a bang, racing to a 34-5 by the time the players went for a breather. The winners continued their impressive run, adding 21 more points in the final half while their opponents managed to accrue 14 points. For BHEL, Raghu (10) and Pratik (12) scored freely. Aditya, with 8 points to his name, led the show for HAL ‘B’.
In a closely-fought clash, NBA defeated YMCA Hyderabad 77-67. Both sides put their best foot forward, not allowing too much breathing space for the other but NBA prevailed in the end. The two sides went into half-time, with NBA leading by a mere four points 36-32. The winners upped the ante in the second half, adding 41 crucial points as against 35 by their rivals.
For NBA, Samson (13) and Lokesh (12) proved their mettle, while Richi (17) and Vinay (36) did their bit for YMCA Hyderabad.
