Vishu, Fatehdeep in quarters of junior national tennis

Second seed Vishu B. Prasad and fourth seed Fatehdeep Singh sailed into the quarter-finals of the boys Under-16 with straight set wins at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship here Wednesday.

Vishu had an easy outing against Vikrant Dahiya and moved into the last eight with a 6-2, 6-1 win while Punjab boy Fatehdeep edged past Paramveer Singh Bajwa 6-4, 7-5 at the R.K. Khanna Tennis Complex.

Eighth seed B.R. Nikshep was the only big casualty when he was shown the door by Garvit Batra who made it to the next round with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

In the other singles matches, Prajwal Dev blanked Aryan Goveas 6-0, 6-0 while Udayan Bhakar fought hard from a set down to go past Alex Solanki 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. M. Sai Nikhil, Shashank Nautiyal and Bijay Gyan Bhaskar completed the quarterfinal line-up.

In the girls Under-16, top seed S. Snehadevi looked in trouble after she lost the opening set but then got things under control to make it to the quarters with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Sai Avanthika.

Second seed Pranjala Yadapalli, who last week won the girls Under-18 title, entered the quarterfinals by beating Mihika Yadav 6-3, 6-4.

Fourth seed Akshara Iska beat Thanushree Palani Vale 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 while Himani Mor, seeded fifth, defeated A. Shameena 1-6, 7-5, 6-0.

Devanshi Bhimjiyani, Vanshika Sawhney, Nayanika Devi and Ramya Natraj were the other seeded players who made it to the last eight without any problems.

In the boys Under-14, top seed B.R. Nikshep made up for his loss in the Under-16 category, with a victory over Mingkhi Talom. Nikshep overpowered Mingkhi 6-0, 6-1 while second seed Nitin Kumar Sinha went past Yash Yadav 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(2).

Also making it to the next round were Paramveer Singh Bajwa, Amarnath Arora, Alex Solanki, Udayan Bhakar, Sanil Jagtiani and P.V. Gnana Bhask.

Top four seeds in the girls Under-14 category; Sruta Kirti Gungunati, Himani Mor, Vanshika Sawhney and Mihika Yadav also advanced into the next stage.

Others making the quarters are Zeel Desai, Sachi Belwal, R. Abinikka and Snehal Mane.
