TNCA senior division: Hemant, Malolan, Siva sizzle

Young Stars CC made a sporting second-innings declaration setting Aruna CC a target of 322 runs on the second day of the TNCA senior division league (9th round) at the SRMC here on Tuesday.

Aruna, in reply, have made a strong start knocking off 87 runs without loss in 25 overs. Openers R. Vivek and V. Aaditya are batting on 43 and 29 respectively.

Earlier, Young Stars declared their second innings for 179 for eight in 33.1 overs. V. Subramania Siva slammed a quick-fire 96 (61b, 7x4, 9x6), which also helped him cross 500 runs for the season.

C. Hemant Kumar struck a fruitful 102 (197b, 11x4, 1x5) to put Jolly Rovers in a strong position against Globe Trotters. Rovers are 211 for two 75 overs in reply to Globe Trotters' first innings score of 336.

Hemant and M. Prabhu (72) stitched an unbeaten third-wicket partnership of 171 runs in 63 overs.
Vijay CC left-arm spinner Aushik Srinivas bagged four wickets to leave Indian Bank struggling at 165 for five in 84 overs. For the banking unit, only openers NS Chaturved (64) and R. Ananth (57) showed some resistance. Earlier, Vijay CC were bowled out for 302 in 93.1 overs.

Meanwhile, S. Murali (60) and Abhishek Hegde (62) struck half-centuries to help IOB post 176 for two in 81 overs against Alwarpet CC. Riding on M. Lakshminarayan's unbeaten 79, Alwarpet managed to score 262 in 101.3 overs.

Medium pacer L. Vignesh picked up four wickets as Grand Slam fell 10 runs short of UFCC's first innings score of 193. V. Laksman and MK Sivakumar grabbed three wickets apiece.

R. Kavin (50) and S. Thiyagarajan (69) propelled TI Cycles to 290 in 63.4 overs against India Pistons. The duos efforts helped TI Cycles gain a vital first-innings lead of 36 runs. For India Pistons, M. Ashwin returned with a five-wicket haul.
