Thomas musters enough courage for a comeback
Vienna, Oct. 23: Retired former Austrian ironman Thomas Muster will attempt to defy his 43 years when he plays as a long-odds wild card at next week’s Austria Tennis Trophy.
The 1995 Roland Garros winner and one-time king of clay has been labouring through a comeback experiment for the past few months on the lower-level Challenger circuit, where his success has been limited to just one match win and six losses. But such is aura of the country’s greatest-ever player that officials thought it well worth giving him a chance. In his prime, Muster reached the final at the Stadthalle thrice, losing title bids in 1988, 1993 and 1995.
