Sofuoglu to start 2nd
Mahi Racing Team India rider Kenan Sofuoglu will begin the Silverstone leg of the 2013 World Supersport championship on the front row after finishing second in the qualifying round on Sunday.
The defending world champion registered the fastest qualifying time of 2 minutes 8.003 seconds to finish behind leader Sam Lowes of Yakhnich Motorsports, who clocked 2m7.666s.
Sofuoglu, who is currently second in the overall standing with 106 points behind Lowes at 140, will look to close in the gap with Lowes with yet another victory at Silverstone after winning the Imola leg.
The Turkish rider was unfortunate to lose out on 25 points in Moscow when the stewards called off the race following a fatal crash on a slippery track.
Mahi Racing’s second rider Fabien Foret will start from the seventh position, after clocking a qualifying time of 2m 8.946s.
Team chairman Arun Pandey was happy with the qualifying performance and said their lead rider would have a good chance to take the chequered flag.
“Sofuoglu has been impressive in the last two races and starting on the front row allows him the freedom to challenge for the top spot from the start,” he said.
