Semis with England tomorrow
India dished out dream stuff outclassing arch-rivals Pakistan 7-4 in a nerve-wrecking men’s hockey encounter Sunday evening. Cheered wildly by a 20,000-strong crowd, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and son Rahul among them, the Men in Blue pumped in seven goals that pierced the Pakistani defence — and hearts.
It was déjà vu for Team India, which beat Pakistan 4-1 in the Hockey World Cup opener in March. India enter the semi-finals, and face England Tuesday.
The atmosphere was electric and decibel levels beyond belief as the Men in Blue exuded their class from the start. Sandeep Singh and Shivendra Singh struck a brace each, while Sarvanjit, Danish Mujtaba and Dharamvir scored one apiece.
