No issues with Woods and WAGs: Pavin
Newport (Wales), Sept. 28: Corey Pavin has laughed off suggestions of possible tension between newly divorced Tiger Woods and the wives and girlfriends of his United States Ryder Cup team-mates.
Woods, who split with wife Elin Nordegren following revelations about his serial affairs, arrived in Wales alone on Monday while other American players travelled with their partners. Europe captain Colin Montgomerie warned earlier this year Woods might struggle to win acceptance from his teammates’ wives — several of whom were friends with ex-wife Elin.
“Turning up at Celtic Manor could be one of the hardest things Tiger ever does,” Montgomerie said. “He won’t worry about hitting the ball, but he will worry about how the wives of the other players will react to him. Some of them will be friends with Elin and they will sympathise with her anger and pain. Some of them might find it hard to welcome Tiger back into the group,” he said.
However Pavin brushed off questions on the subject on Tuesday and smiled when asked if he had told the wives and girlfriends to “pretend to be nice” to Woods. “Everything’s fine,” Pavin said. “Team room’s great. I didn’t talk to anybody about anything like that. It’s not necessary,” Pavin said.
