Medals will come soon: Kashyap
He is disappointed to have lost out on a medal at the World Championships, but Parupalli Kashyap said the quarter-final that he lost was the best match of his career and that he wants to continue with the momentum.
Kashyap, world no. 17, had a match -point in the second game third ranked Chinese Du Pengyu but failed to convert. He went on to lose 21-16, 20-22, 15-21 and a chance to secure a bronze.
“It was really disappointing. I was one point away and could have given myself a medal chance.
“I think a little bit of luck would have helped me. I played very safe and he (Du) was very good at the net. It was his day probably,” said Kashyap, the icon player of Banga Beats at the Indian Badminton League.
“But I am happy with the way I played throughout. I think I played my best match of my career. I am going to get all these medals soon,” he promised.
On his current form, he said: “I am playing well and in great form. I am focused on continuing with this form for the rest of the season,”
Kashyap is likely to run into Lee Chong Wei at the Siri Fort Stadium on Thursday when his team play the Mumbai Masters.
The 26-year-old Hyderabadi was also excited about the unique format of the IBL and said, “There will be lot of upsets and the smarter player will pull it off. One has to be really alert.”
Meanwhile, former world and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat, who will lead Hyderabad Hotshots’ men’s singles campaign against Awadhe Warriors on Thursday was confident of a good show by his team on Thursday.
“I am not expecting too much from the tournament as I am coming out of retirement. The team should not bank too much on me. But we have a strong side, we have Saina (Nehwal). I am hopeful that we can pull out couple of wins,” Hidayat said.
