Gomes to take over as EB coach

Phillippe de Ridder’s fate was sealed almost immediately after the I-League 3. Late on Saturday, East Bengal’s top officials held an emergency meeting and decided to rope in Portugal’s Manuel Gomes as the club’s head coach for the coming season, reports our correspondent.
“His (Gomes) past record is quite illustrious. Apart from being the head coach of Angola, he has also been a part of the Portuguese national team’s support staff. Add to this is the improvement Maldives underwent under his guidance back in 2007,” East Bengal assistant secretary Shantiranjan Dasgupta said.
The tenure of Gomes’ contract would be finalised next week, Dasgupta added. “Our president will first speak to him and complete all the formalities.”
