Fit Rooney is Man United’s best weapon
London, Nov. 26: Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing to unleash a fit-again Wayne Rooney on the Premier League as Manchester United look to kick-start their title charge at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
Rooney made his first start for United since early October in Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Glasgow, scoring from the penalty spot to secure a 1-0 victory over Rangers.
Ferguson admits Rooney is a long way from being the unstoppable force that saw him score 34 times in all competitions last season. “He needs games,” said Ferguson. “The way we are going to do that is to keep him on the pitch for 90 minutes,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rooney has tried to make his peace with Manchester United’s fans by saying sorry for the way his contract talks were concluded last month. Rooney, before scoring in United’s Champions League 1-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday, said: “I feel like I have apologised to the fans but everyone keeps saying that I haven’t. If that is the case, then I apologise for my side of things.”
