Cash incentive for olympic, Asian Games winners doubled

Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa on Tuesday doubled the cash incentives awarded to Olympic medal winners from Tamil Nadu.

An official press release said the cash award given to winners of gold medals have been increased from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore.

The incentive for winners of silver medals have been increased from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Bronze winners who were given Rs 25 lakh will get Rs 50 lakh now

Apart from Olympics, winners of medals in Asian Games and Commonwealth Games will also get incentive hikes.

Gold medal winners will get Rs 50 lakh instead of the present Rs 20 lakh and silver medal winners will get Rs 30 lakh instead of Rs15 lakh.

The cash incentives for bronze medal winners have been increased to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 10 lakh.

The winners of gold medals in South Asian games and national games will get Rs 5 lakh instead of Rs 1 lakh as cash incentive from the state government.

The silver medal winners will get `3 lakh instead of Rs 50,000 and bronze winners will get Rs 2 lakh instead of Rs 25,000.
