Andhra pip K'taka to clinch South Zone title
Andhra defeated Karnataka by 44 runs to emerge champions in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy South Zone Under-19 cricket tournament here Friday.
Andhra, who shot out Karnataka 182 after making 206, picked up five points, including one bonus point, to top the table with 20 and remain unbeaten while the hosts finished runners-up with 17 points.
Half-centuries by G. Jayvardhan (50) and Karan Shinde (53) propped up the Andhra innings, and chasing the modest target, Karnataka caved in with K.N. Bharat (44) being the top scorer.
Hyderabad overwhelmed Tamil Nadu by eight wickets and finished third with 12 points while Kerala edged out Goa by 28 runs to occupy fourth position. Tamil Nadu with five points ended up fifth ahead of Goa, who lost all their five matches.
