An all-star finale is up next
An all-star tournament to be contested by 128 players, who were selected from over 1,000 participants, will be played marking the culmination of the 7-week Mahindra NBA Challenge Basketball League in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.
The players include India International Jeena P.S. who had appeared in the world championship for 3on3 recently and Neenumol P.S., Soniya Joy and Basil Philip, who were part of the 16-member senior Indian camp and other national campers such as Lizy Mathew, Premi P. Lal, Anjana P.S. and former International Boby Mathew.
The all-star tournament will be held in the categories of Under-13, Under-16, Under-18 and above 19 for which the selected players have been divided into two groups named south and north.
A clinic by Troy Justice, director of operations, NBA India will also be held on the occasion. The all-star games are played as though they are regular games, but since they present a special showcase for skills, they hardly play out that way, informed the organisers.
“Coaches will try to get everyone into the game (while constrained by normal substitution rules), with the players not exerting themselves as they would in a regular season game,” said the organisers.
Earlier, Poojamol K.S. was selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) from the opening season while Aswathy S. Thampy was chosen as the best defensive player.
