Aaron D’Souza is living a dream, a London dream. But, despite being on a high after qualifying for the Olympics in the men’s 200m freestyle, the swimmer from Bengaluru has his feet firmly on the ground.
“I can’t explain how I felt after making the mark (Olympic qualification ‘B’ mark) in Singapore.

But as the excitement started settling in, I realised the huge responsibility I have,” said Aaron, who is competing at the Federation Cup swimming championship being held in Hyderabad.

“Now I am focussed on improving my timing. I am targeting a semifinal berth at London. I believe in step by step progress. Making the semis itself is a huge task as no Indian swimmer has done it earlier”, the 19-year-old said.

Aaron is also attempting to make the qualification mark for the 200m butterfly. “Though it will be logical to concentrate only on freestyle now, I have always been good at butterfly.

And here, I missed the mark only by 1.2 seconds,” he added after clinching the 200m butterfly gold here in 2 minutes and 3.65 seconds.

“The priority will be of course the 200m freestyle. But since I have clocked so well, I do not want to give up on qualifying for the butterfly event.”

Jyotsna claims gold in 100m butterfly event

Maharashtra’s Jyotsna Pansare, considered one of the best upcoming swimmers, won the women’s 100 metre butterfly event at the Federation Cup swimming championship held at the Aquatic Complex in the GMC Balayogi Athletics Stadium in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, on Saturday.

Jyotsna clocked 1 minute and 5.51 seconds as she pushed Vandita Dhariyal (1:07:11) of Gujarat into second spot. Andhra Pradesh’s J.S. Yuvika came third in 1:27:79.
