IAS officer to clean up mess at BU?
Following the Karnataka high court order against Bangalore University (BU) registrar Prof. B.C. Mylarappa, the state government has decided to remove him from his post and make adhoc arrangements till a new, full time registrar is appointed.
Speaking to this newspaper, Mr. Siddaiah, principal secretary, higher education department said the government has already conveyed its decision to Prof. N. Rangaswamy, incharge VC of the university. “The department has directed Prof. Rangaswamy to appoint a senior academician with integrity as in-charge registrar. We have also directed the VC to relieve Mr Mylarappa from his responsibilities with immediate effect,” he said.
But when contacted Prof. Rangaswamy refused to react to the development saying he was not aware of the government order. “Till now, I have not received any communication from the higher education department in this regard,” he said.
Meanwhile, highly placed sources in the higher education department said the state government is planning to send a senior IAS officer to the university as registrar to streamline the administrative process. Speaking to this newspaper a senior officer disclosed that the government is concerned over administrative lapses at the varsity and has decided to send a senior IAS officer to set things right. “The Mylarappa episode has further damaged the reputation of the university. The government is also upset with the infighting between university officials and faculty members. To put an end to the controversies, we are planning to send a outsider as registrar, preferably a senior IAS officer,” he said.
Mr Mylarappa did not attend the BU syndicate meeting on Thursday and went on a day's leave.
Speaking to reporters, he said he had not received any directive from the government on removing him from his post.
