Sensex opens 124 points up on strong global cues
Mumbai, July 23: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose further by over 124 points in early trade today on sustained buying by funds amid a firming trend in the Asian region, driven by overnight gains in US markets.
The 30-share index, which had gained 135.92 points in the previous session, added another 124.41 points to 18,237.56 points in the first five minutes of trading.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also rose by 35.55 points to 5,477.50.
The market sentiment remained firm in tandem with a strong trend in the Asian region, following overnight gains in the US market.
The market also flared up on steady inflow of quarter earnings by leading companies.
Reliance Industries stocks rose by 0.20 per cent to Rs 1,061.00, while Infosys Technology by climbed by 0.61 per cent to Rs 2,774.50 and Wipro by 2.51 per cent to Rs 425.05.
