World’s biggest Cornish pasty?
A team of bakers in Britain claims to have created the world’s biggest ever Cornish pasty, using 1,000 pounds of flour and 500 pounds of butter.
According to the Sun, the pasty measures around 15 feet long, weighs 850 kg and contains 364 pounds of beef skirt; it’s also packed with 180 pounds of swede, 100 pounds of potato and 75 pounds of onion.
The mouth-watering snack was made in the classic semi-circular shape with a crust.
It would provide some 3500 normal size pasties and was weighed on a special weighbridge used for lorries, its makers say.
It would cost around £7,000 to buy and was baked in a specially-built oven for 11 hours, the report said. The pie was cooked during a competition to see who could build the biggest pasty in 24 hours at the annual regatta in Fowey, Cornwall.
The winner was created by a team of six from Proper Cornish, of Bodmin, who beat local rivals Lostwithiel Bakery. Proper Cornish director Mark Muncey was quoted by the British tabloid as saying, “It was a lot of hard work — we are tired but ecstatic.” The feat is now being verified by the Guinness Book of Records to have it recognised as the biggest pasty ever made.
