Women gossip ‘for five hours a day’
Women never change, it seems. The average female spends five hours a day gossiping — whether they are at home or at work, a new survey has found.
According to the British survey, women natter for 298 minutes daily — in fact, discussing other people’s problems, who’s dating who and other people’s children form the basis of most chats; other subjects cropping up most regularly include sex, shopping and soaps.
The survey also found that women spend 24 minutes a day discussing their weight, diets and dress size. One third say they spend a chunk of their day discussing what they are eating for lunch, while a quarter regularly exchange recipes.
Other topics include what cosmetic surgery procedures they would like, what the mother-in-law has said, and which celebrities they fantasise about.
Those with friendly neighbours spend nearly half-an-hour a week having a gossip or a moan together. Most women prefer chatting to their friends to anyone else but say they talk to their partner, mum and their best friend about completely different things, the survey revealed.
Husbands are most likely to get the brunt of work talk, with a daily update from their other half on how their day has gone and who has annoyed them, whereas a woman is more likely to gossip with their best friend.
“It is also interesting to see how the conversation differs between women talking to each other and women talking to their partners,” said Steve Barton, spokesman for wine firm FirstCape Cafe Collection which commissioned the poll.
