WillKat to move into Diana’s former home
Newly-wed Prince William and Catherine will move into an apartment in the Kensington Palace to set up a base for their London visits, St. James’ Palace said on Monday.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who are based in Wales, will move into their London home sometime in June or July. At present, William and Kate share an apartment in the Clarence House with Prince Harry.
“We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s official London residence will temporarily become a property at Kensington Palace. A number of options for longer term solutions are still being considered,” a spokesman from St James’ Palace said.
Prince William, who is a Royal Air Force search and rescue helicopter pilot, will continue to be based in Wales.
“The couple’s main home will continue to be their house on Anglesey, and their household office will continue to be based at St. James’ Palace,” the spokesperson said.
Prince William lived in the Kensington Palace with his mother Diana, Princess of Wales, after her divorce from Prince Charles. However, the royal couple will not be living in the same apartment.
William and Kate are travelling on their first official tour after their wedding to Canada and Los Angeles between June 30 and July 10. Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that Kate’s wedding dress will be put on public display for 10 weeks during the summer opening of the palace this year.
The dress, designed by Sarah Burton, of the Alexander McQueen fashion label, will be put on display with the royal wedding cake, designed by Fiona Cairns at the Buckingham Palace. The entry for the exhibition is £17.50.
