Warhol’s canvas sold for $20.4m

An Andy Warhol canvas depicting Jacqueline Kennedy, titled Sixteen Jackies, sold for $20.4 million on Tuesday at Sotheby’s in New York.
The acrylic and silkscreen ink on canvas work repeatedly showing the wife of assassinated president John F. Kennedy led a solid, but unspectacular auction in a packed-to-overflowing room at Sotheby’s.
The price reached was at the low end of the pre-sale estimate.
Jeff Koons’ Pink Panther, a porcelain sculpture of a topless blonde hugging the famous cartoon character, sold for $16.8 million. That was below the estimate of $20-30 million.
Warhols dominated the top sales, with Shadow — Red selling for 4.8 million, far above the estimate of $700-900,000 and Round Jackie fetching $3.7 million, compared to the presale estimate of $3-4 million.

30,000 BC cave found in China
Beijing: A cave home that dates back to 30,000 BC has been found in central China. The stone age cave was discovered at the Long-quan Mountain Heritage Site in Henan province.
The site dates back to about 50,000 to 30,000 BC, and according to archaeologists it is an important period for studying the origin of modern human being.
They have also found over 1,000 stone tools, animal teeth and bone fossils, and signs that fire was used. Some bone fossils bore bite and cut marks, People’s Daily reported. Experts said the site is unique compared to other similar sites discovered hitherto in the country as it contains fire pits, stone tools and fossils all in one place. It provides important material for studying modern man’s behavioural characteristics.
The findings reveal that ancient people had the ability to adapt to difficult climate and terrain. —IANS

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
