Spacecraft to take own decision?
In what sounds like a plot from a science fiction, scientists are developing a spacecraft which they say can make its own decision and reason like humans.
British engineers, who are supported by European Space Agency (ESA) in this project, said they are developing control systems that can be used in satellites, robotic exploration vehicles and spacecraft capable of controlling themselves.
The space vehicles will be able to learn, identify problems, adapt during missions, carry out repairs and take their own decisions about how best to carry out a task, they said.
Details of the research have emerged as ESA prepares to launch the second of its Automated Transport Vehicles (ATV2) to deliver supplies to the International Space Station later this month, the Telegraph reported.
The ATV2, which was designed and built by space company Astrium, will follow a preprogrammed route to the space station before using on-board sensors and collision-avoidance systems to dock safely space station.

‘Iron Lady’refused to meet Streep
London: The makers of upcoming film The Iron Lady wanted lead actress Meryl Streep to discuss the project with Margaret Thatcher so that she could gain a better understanding of her and copy her accent and manner. But it has emerged that the former British Prime Minister refused to meet Streep over fears that it could distort her 11 years in power, reports the Daily Mail.
Lady Thatcher is 85 and has not carried out public engagements since she was taken ill last October.
When the request to deal directly with her office was turned down, the filmmakers approached a former aide for help. He put them in touch with several of her allies who advised them on her feelings and reminiscences about her period in office.
The film shows Britain’s first woman Prime Minister reflecting regretfully on her historic time leading the country.
The original script is understood to have suggested that Lady Thatcher questioned some of the key moments of her years in power, including the Falklands War. —ANI
