Rolling Stones to play four gigs
British rock band Rolling Stones on Monday announced their plans to hold four concerts, called 50 & Counting: The Rolling Stones Live, in London and New York to mark their 50th anniversary. The two concerts in London will be held in O2 Arena on November 25 and 29 and the rock band will then perform at the Prudential Centre in Newark, near New York, on December 13 and 15. This is the first time in five years that Mick Jagger (69), Keith Richards (68), Charlie Watts (71) and Ronnie Wood (65) will perform together on stage live in five years.
The band, which was formed in London in 1962, will play the gigs as part of on-going 50th anniversary celebrations. The band made the announcement on Monday morning via a YouTube video. The rock icons had last performed together as a band at London’s O2 Arena in 2007. Describing London and New York as “two cities that know how to rock ’n’ roll,” the band also commented about the long ongoing rumours and speculation about their live performances. “Sorry to keep you all hanging around but the waiting is over. I’ve always said the best place for rock and roll is on the stage and the same is true for the Stones. I’m here with Mick, Charlie and Ronnie and everything is rocking. See you very soon,” Keith Richards said. And Mick Jagger said, “Everybody loves a celebration, and London and New York are two good places to do it in.”
They will perform their songs like Gimme Shelter, Paint It Black, Jumping Jack Flash, Tumbling Dice, and It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll.
The Rolling Stones live shows will also mark the launch of a new venture in global touring, Virgin Live, a tie-up between the Dainty Group and Virgin Group.
