Ricky Martin to marry boyfriend on Jan. 28

Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin and his boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez will marry January 28 in New York. New York had in June 2011 approved marriage between homosexual couples. Since he announced his homosexual orientation in March 2010, Martin — who turned 40 on December 24 — has expressed his support for marriage among people of the same sex, according to the El Nuevo Dia newspaper.
Martin also said he favours homosexual marriages in Puerto Rico, where it is still illegal. He termed his homosexuality “a gift”. “What I want is for them to say no to discrimination so that equality among us human beings may be a reality in my country,” he said.

Heigl’s mom threatened to send her to convent
Actress Katherine Heigl’s mother kept the star in line when she was growing up by threatening to send her off to a convent if she missed her curfew. The 33-year-old’s mother Nancy insisted her daughter was always home by 1 am in a bid to keep her out of trouble. And Heigl always adhered to the rule — because she feared she’d be enrolled in a Swiss nunnery if she didn’t make it home on time. “Katie believed it for a very, very long time, and that’s the most important thing. I believed I would do it, and she believed I would do it... We go to Switzerland. We go to the bottom of the mountain. We take away all her clothes, we put her on a donkey and send her up to the top of the mountain, where she doesn’t get to talk to anybody on a regular basis,” Nancy said. — PTI

Rihanna waiting for a call from Coldplay
R&B star Rihanna says she is “waiting for the call” to perform with Coldplay star Chris Martin at the Brit awards. The 23-year-old singer collaborated on the track Princess Of China from Coldplay’s album Mylo Xyloto and Brits bosses plan to get the two chart heavyweights together for the O2 show next month reported Sun online. “I think Chris Martin is a special guy. His song writing is just beautiful and I am a huge fan. If they want me to sing with Coldplay, I will be waiting for the call. I’d love to perform with them,” she said. The Don’t Stop the Music hitmaker has just wrapped a world tour in support of her fifth studio album, Loud, finishing with three dates in London’s O2 Arena before Christmas. She even released her sixth album Talk That Talk at the end of last year. — PTI

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
