Punk icon Styrene dies at 53
“X Ray Spex” front woman Poly Strene, the punk icon who later quit music to join the “Hare Krishna” movement, has died after a short battle with cancer. She was 53.
Styrene, who formed the band in the 70’s after attending a “Sex Pistols” concert at the age of 18, became an icon with her often controversial style.
The singer, whose real name was Marianne Elliot-Said, had cancer of the spine and breast. “We can confirm that the beautiful Poly Styrene, who has been a true fighter, won her battle on Monday evening to go to higher places,” said a statement on her Twitter feed. Styrene became kno-wn for her unpolished voc-als and energetic rallying cries against consumerism and environmental destruction. X Ray Spex released just one album, Germ Free Adolescents, in 1978, before splitting up.

Katie Price survives car crash
London: Katie Price and her lover Leandro Penna escaped without any injury after a crash which left their car a wreck. The glamour girl’s car hit and killed two horses which had bolted into her path on a remote country road in Argentina, reported Daily Mail online.
The shaken 33-year-old said after the incident: “It was absolutely terrifying. It all happened in a flash and I have absolutely no idea how I wasn’t badly injured. I feel so lucky, but more than anything I’m just distraught about the horses. It was so upsetting.” Witnesses said that the couple were saved because they were in a rugged vehicle and were both wearing seatbelts.
The crash was about two hours north of Cordoba, where Leandro’s parents live. Price has experienced many highly-publicised relationships and has been married twice, both of which dissolved. —PTI
