Prince Philip comes home from hospital
Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was discharged from hospital on Tuesday after spending four days there. The royal consort, who turned 90 this year, had been admitted to Papworth Cardiothoracic Hospital, near Cambridge, on Friday night after he complained of chest pains.
The Duke of Edinburgh was fitted with a coronary stent after he was found to have a blocked coronary artery which had caused his chest pains. Prince Philip missed the Christmas festivities with the royal family at Sandringham in Norfolk as he had to stay in hospital under observation.
His wife, Queen Elizabeth II, sons — Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, and Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex — daughter Anne, the Princess Royal, and daughter-in-law Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited him in hospital on the Christmas Eve.
He was also visited by his grandchildren, including Prince William and Prince Harry, in hospital. Prince Philip thanked hospital staff who cared for him over the Christmas period after he was discharged.
“On departure, Prince Philip thanked the staff at Papworth for the excellent care he has received during his stay. He is very much looking forward to rejoining his family,” a Buckingham Palace spokesman said. Philip, who had earlier indicated that he wants to cut down on his public duties, has not decided whether he will officially to curtail his public appearances. No decision has been taken by the Buckingham Palace on how soon he would resume public engagements.
