Philip spends 91st b’day at home
Queen Elizabeth II’s consort, Prince Philip, turned 91 years old on Sunday and he marked the day quietly with family at Windsor Castle after he was discharged from hospital in London on Saturday.
The Queen’s diamond jubilee celebration has, meanwhile, boosted Prince Charles’ popularity in Britain as for the first time in seven years Britons want him to succeed his mother ahead of his elder son William. The jubilee has helped the royal family as 75 per cent of Britons now want to keep the monarchy.
Just a week before the jubilee, weeks ago, a survey had found Britons preferred William as their next king with 44 per cent in his favour and only 38 per cent keen on Charles’ succession. However, a YouGov survey for the Sunday Times has shown this support has reversed — 44 per cent want Prince Charles, who has been heir apparent for over 60 years, to be the next king and 38 per cent want William as the next king.
The surprising change in Britons’ attitude towards the Prince of Wales comes just as his father, the Duke of Edinburgh, was discharged from King Edward VII Hospital in central London.
