Obama hosts Lincoln show at White House
President Barack Obama invited director Steven Spielberg to screen his latest film Lincoln at the White House. The film, starring Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln, centres on the final four months of the 16th President’s life and tells the story of how he abolished slavery, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The White House said that President Obama will host the cast and crew of Steven Spielberg’s biopic Lincoln on Thursday. No additional details were provided but sources said Spielberg was planning to attend the screening along with stars Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Gloria Reuben and Tommy Lee Jones.

Royal bracelet gets $3.2 CHF at geneva auction
Geneva: A conch pearl and diamond bracelet that once belonged to Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain fetched 3.2 million Swiss francs at auction in Geneva on Wednesday, more than doubling reserve estimates. Spectators in a packed auction room at Sotheby’s looked on as bids for the baby-pink and diamond-encrusted Cartier piece surpassed expectations, which had put the final sale price at 750,000 to 1.5 million Swiss francs.
The bracelet, described by Sotheby’s as the property of “a lady of title”, was offered by an unnamed member of the Spanish royal family. It was the star lot in a huge jewellery sale of nearly 600 items. Described by Sotheby’s as a “unique and highly imp-ortant” item of jewellery, the bracelet was made in the 1920s and is 186 millimetres (just over seven inches) long. — AFP
