M.I.A wears burqa, raises eyebrows

The always-provocative Tamil-origin rapper M.I.A. wore a Burma on the red carpet recently and her sartorial choice turned quite some heads.
The songstress, real name Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam, arrived at the “Scream 2010” awards in Los Angeles wearing a black burqa of her own design, with the lyrics from her song XXXO printed on it, reported Los Angeles Times.
She paired the traditional garment with yellow high-heeled sandals and metallic green eyeshadow that peeked out from her veil.
The 32-year-old went with a different ensemble for her onstage performance later in the night, sporting a blue wig, yellow sequined blouse, pink pants and green shoes to sing Teqkilla.
Meanwhile, other stars attending the gala, including Megan Fox, Halle Berry stuck to more conventional options. The singer who won an Academy award nomination for O Saaya, her collaboration with A.R. Rahman in Slumdog Millionaire.
