Men trek to get over midlife crisis
It seems fast cars and young women are old hat for men suffering from a midlife crisis, for a new survey has revealed that they are now turning to marathons and mountain-climbing to beat off the middle age blues.
The survey of 2,000 men, aged 35 to 55, found half had set themselves a tough physical task in the past 12 months.
Not all of them go through with it, and up to a third back out due to lack of fitness or proper commitment. But many others use it as a way to regain their fitness or raise money for charity, the poll has found.
Among the most popular feats of endurance are events like the Three Peaks Challenge, cycling from London to Paris or trekking the Great Wall of China, leading British tabloid the British media reported.
Many men do more than one event a year and train for around three weeks each time.
Over half say they do it to lose weight but 10 per cent admit it’s purely because they are going through a midlife crisis.
Winemaker Redwood Creek paid for the poll to launch its own event, the Redwood Creek Challenge, this September.
