Marwari horses at Windsor show
A series of special performances by horses and dancers from across the Commonwealth were held at the four-day Royal Windsor Horse Show, which ended on Sunday, to mark the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
Diamond Jubilee Pageant at Windsor involved equine displays and other acts from across the Commonwealth, including displays by more than 500 horses and 1,000 dancers.
The Indian contingent was formed of the famous Marwari horses and dancers from Rajasthan. The pageant had eight Marwari horses from Oman, Spain and the UK and they were accompanied by eight Marwari dancers and 12 musicians. There was a troupe from Kalbelia community and Kutchi Ghodi dancers, who performed the ancient heroic deeds of old warriors. The Marwari horses dance display also included a spectacular display of tent-pegging with fire.
The pageant on Sunday included a celebration of more than 250 Commonwealth and state visits made by the Queen in the last 60 years. The event, staged inside the private grounds of Windsor Castle, had performances from every country that the Queen has visited, from New Zealnd’s Maori troupe to West Asian stunt riders and to India’s traditional horsemanship displays, dhol drummers, peacock dancers. There were also performances by drum dancers from Cook Islands, Chilean cowboys, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, New South Wales Mounted Police, Kremlin Equestrian School.
The Queen was accompanied by her husband Prince Philip and other members of the royal family including Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, Princess Beatrice, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, saw the performances in Windsor. The World Comes To Windsor aims to take the audience on a journey around the world in 90 minutes. The event will be broadcast by ITV during the Jubilee celebrations in June. The diamond jubilee celebrations will start on June 2 and go on till June 5 and will include one special public holiday declared for the occasion.
The celebrations will begin with the Queen attending the Epsom Derby, the UK’s richest horse race, on June 2.
