Mani to be honoured in Venice
Director Mani Ratnam will be honoured with the “Glory to the Filmmaker Award” at the Venice Film Festival.
The festival, which begins from September this year, will also screen Ratnam’s latest work, Raavan and Raavanan, both in its Hindi and Tamil versions, the festival director, Marco Mueller, announced at Cannes. Ratnam’s film, being promoted by Reliance Big Picture, opens worldwide on June 18 but Venice will be its festival premiere. “Raavan is a great work. You would never have seen anything like this before,” Amit Khanna of Big Pictures said.

Cheryl gets hefty sum for show
London: British popstar Cheryl Cole was paid a whopping half million dollars for a 30-minute performance at a luxury hotel in Cannes.
The Parachute hitmaker who recently split from husband, footballer Ashley Cole, saw her fortune soar by 150 per cent in 2009 and she is roping in millions with private performances. The 26-year-old will also make the brief appearance at a Cannes dinner and party hosted by luxury jewellery firm de Grisogono
