Lennon’s white suit gets $46K
The white suit worn by “Beatles” legend John Lennon on the iconic cover of the group’s album Abbey Road has fetched $46,000 at a New Year’s Day auction in Connecticut.
Released in September 1969, it was the band’s eleventh album and showed the four members of the group striding across a pedestrian crossing, with Lennon leading the way, near their recording studio in West London.
The image has become synonymous with the British band and the suit, made for Lennon by French designer Ted Lapidus, was sold to an anonymous online bidder along with other Beatles memorabilia at the Braswell Galleries’ annual New Year’s Day Auction on Saturday, reported Daily Mail online.
Aside from the Abbey Road outfit, another John Lennon suit, the one he wore for the Imagine documentary, was for sale at the auction. And Hank Gioiella of Darien paid $5,500 for a rusted green 1972 Chrysler station wagon Lennon and Yoko Ono owned.
