Last Tango in Paris star Schneider dies
French actress Maria Schneider, who shot to fame as Marlon Brando’s lover in Bernardo Bertolucci’s sensational Last Tango In Paris, has died.
She was 58 and suffering from cancer, reported People magazine.
The daughter of French actor Daniel Gelin and a Parisien bookshop owner, Schneider was l9 when she was cast in only her second screen role opposite Brando, who was then 48.
Schnieder’s full frontal nude scenes in the 1972 film sparked controversy and it was banned in several countries. Both Bertolucci and Brando won Oscar-nominations and Schneider was catapulted to global fame.
Schneider has appeared in a number of films, including the existential drama The Passenger opposite Jack Nicholson and Jane Eyre.
