Katy Perry requests donation for tornado victims
Pop star Katy Perry has urged fans to donate for the victims of the devastating tornado in Missouri in an effort to lend a helping hand to the sufferers.
The 26-year-old singer, who was shocked to hear the news, has requested her devotees to make the contribution to the Red Cross, reported Contactmusic.
"Please Text Redcross to 90999 to donate $10 to Joplin Relief, or directly call them at 314 969 8655. Pray for Joplin," wrote Perry on micro blogging website Twitter.
A powerful twister ripped through the city of Joplin on Sunday, destroying whole communities and claiming the lives of more than 110 people.
Besides the 'Fireworks' hitmaker, teen sensation Justin Bieber has also reached out to the victims of the natural calamity.
The news of the disaster sent shockwaves through Hollywood and Bieber was among the first to send his sympathies to the residents of Joplin.
"Just heard about the devastation in Missouri. My heart goes out to everyone there and their families. My prayers are with you," tweeted the 'Baby' hitmaker.
Actress Eva Longoria also sent her condolences via Twitter: "God bless everyone in Joplin. My prayers are with you."
Rocker Bret Michaels and pop star Pink also passed on details of the donation scheme.
