Iffi Golden Peacock for Moner Manush
Bengali filmmaker Goutam Ghose’s Moner Manush, has won the Golden Peacock at the 41st edition of the IFFI 2010, becoming the first Indian film in the past decade to win the top prize.
Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, stars as the 19th Century mystic poet Lalon Fakir in the bio-pic, which won the golden trophy and `20 lakh each for the director and the producer. Another Indian film, Kaushik Ganguly’s Rituparno Ghosh starrer Just Another Love Story, about a woman trapped in a man’s body, shared the special jury award, the Silver Peacock and `15 lakhs, with The Boy a period drama from New Zealand.
It is after 10 years that the top award at Iffi has returned to India. The last film to win the prize was Karunam by Jairam in 2000.
The Crossing from Turkey was adjudged the second best film at the 10-day film festival which concluded on Wednesday.
The movie’s lead actor Guven Kirac won the Best Actor trophy for his “closely observed and finely detailed portrayal”, in the film which revolves around a man whose ordinary life hides a great tragedy.
The best director award went to Danish film director Susanne Bier for her film In A Better World, which tells the story of two families living in a provincial town and a friendship that transforms into a dangerous alliance.
The Best Actress trophy, introduced this year, went to Magdalena Boczarska for her portrayal of a femme fatale who falls in love with the man she sets out to trap, in the Polish film Little Rose, set in the Communist regime. The awards for “Best Actor” and “Best Actress”, include `10 lakh and a citation. —PTI
